Whole30 | Day 1

Well, for those of you who’ve been following me for a while on various social media outlets, this isn’t news. But I’m overweight. Severely so. I am 135 lbs over the healthy weight for a female of my age and height, and I am 150 lbs heavier than I was before having kids. Part of that has to do with side effects of some health complications I’ve been battling. The other part is my own poor food choices.

I’ve never had a good relationship with food, and since the age of 13, I’ve moved from one disordered eating pattern to another. Disordered eating in the forms of Anorexia and Bulimia completely consumed my life for 4 years, and even though I’m considered ‘in recovery for 8 years’ now, the effects are still there. If anything, I swung in the opposite direction and lost control.

I’ve tried nearly everything under the sun to get back to a healthy weight, and to create better food habits. I’ve worked with a trainer and nutritionist, I’ve tried every diet, I’ve even taken prescribed medication. None of it has worked for me for more than a month at a time. My doctor thinks that at this point, weight loss surgery is my best option. I’m doing the Whole30 as my Hail Mary attempt to avoid that. It is an incredibly intimidating diet (to me), so I was putting it off as a last resort. Well, I’m here, standing on the rocky shores, not where I wanted to be, but where I need to be.

For those of you who don’t know what Whole30 is, here’s a basic summary. It’s essentially designed to break your body of any addiction or dependency on carbs and sugar, and it re-wires your metabolism. You go 30 days eating only proteins, veggies, fruits, and nuts. No grains or grain products at all, no sugars or sweeteners. You weigh yourself and take measurements before, and then sit tight and don’t check again until the end of the 30 days.

Today is my day 1. My before photos and official measurements are included below. Be warned- it’s not pretty. It’s mortifying. But I need to do this, for me.

Starting Weight and Measurements:

Weight: 285.5 lbs
Neck: 17″
Bust: 55″
Waist: 44″
Belly Button: 56″
Hips (under pouch): 54″
Thigh: 32″
Bicep: 18″

Overall, I’m hoping to lose 5-10 lbs over the next 30 days. I’m hoping some inches come off around the middle, from bloating/water weight. But I don’t have an exact number in mind.
