I know, I know, I’m a few days late with this post (what else is new). In all fairness, this transition into 2018 has been BUSY.
I’ve been working a LOT; I’ve started doing overnights with an absolutely fabulous family (for real, I love them from the bottom of my heart!) and I still am doing the regular daytime stuff (appointments, births, placentas, photography, etc). The kids are still on Winter Break, so I have them at home, which requires a lot of time and attention. So now, on the third day of January, I’ve come to talk about my personal goals and our family goals for 2018.
My personal ‘word’ for 2018 is FOCUS. I have several things I want to accomplish, but I know I’ll never do it without focus. This year is MY year to achieve great things.
1. Lose 75 lbs
I know, I know. Every year I say I want to lose weight and it never happens. As 2017 ended, I tipped the scales at the HIGHEST I have ever weighed. That number was a slap in the face, and I’ve already started tracking my food intake, increasing my water, and I start next week at our Aquatic Center with a swim coach. I am choosing swimming as my primary form of exercise this time around because 1. I love it, and 2. It’s a lower impact on the rest of my body and my joints, making it less likely to injure me. I will be weighing myself every Monday, and I want to share the fitness journey here, but I’m not sure if I’ll update every week, or perhaps do it monthly. I have about 150 lbs to lose before I’m at my goal weight, but I figure 75 lbs in a year is the first step towards knocking out a big chunk of my goal.
2. Blog More Frequently
This is another one of those resolutions I often try and fail. I want to get this website on a bit of a schedule, so the posts aren’t so random and sporadic. I want to post more recipes, more general updates, and more things specifically pertaining to my job as a doula, my writing endeavours, and my photography.
3. Complete the 365 Photo Challenge.
Every year I start, every year I get about halfway and then stop officially counting. I want to finish it this year. I’ve already got the first 3 days done and on the Instagram account, so I’m off to a good start. I’ll attach the pictures here, so you have something nice to look at.
This year, our family word is QUALITY. We want to focus on spending quality time together, and make every minute count. 2018 is going to be our year of appreciating what we have, and thriving in the time and circumstances we are given.
1. Explore More.
We live in one of the most incredible places. South FL is teeming with events, places to visit, and fun things to do. We tend to stick to our little routine and never break the bubble. In 2018, we hope to get out and explore this wonderful place we call home, and make a ton of memories while we do it.
2. More Family Meals.
We are so guilty of not sitting down for family dinner very often. This is largely due to Ryan’s and my work schedules, but this year I want to make a conscious effort to have more mealtimes together.
3. Buy a Home.
This goal isn’t strictly for 2018, per se, but by December I want to be in a place where we are seriously looking for our forever home. This year is going to be a year of financial growth for our family (it has already started, and I am proclaiming abundance and financial freedom for the rest of the year, in Jesus’ name!) and the goal is to be ready to purchase a home by year end. The actual purchasing and stuff won’t happen until 2019, when our lease runs out again, but 2018 is going to be the year of getting all our ducks in a row so that can happen.
It’s a huge step, and a massive goal. But I have faith that it will happen. This year is our year.
There’s so much happening, but I know that these six things take priority this year. I want to find a way to incorporate my work into my blog, and to be able to write here more frequently. Maybe I’ll publish some of my poetry, maybe I’ll make a point of posting more of my photography here. I’m not sure exactly how it will manifest, but I want to continue to build my presence here. So stay tuned for all the good things coming, because believe me- they are coming this year.
Thanks for reading, and for your continued support.
